Tips for Crafting Engaging Children Stories

Writing children’s stories allows you to use your imagination to create an engaging story to reach a lot of young, potential readers so that you can help them think like a kid and grow to love reading as well.

Below, are useful points to help you write engaging stories for children.

#1 Write what is peculiar to their age groups:

Children have two age groups and you have to be sure which of the groups your book is for before you begin writing. What Interests and captures the attention of a five-year-old would not be the same as what will attract a seven-year-old. The older they get, the more their level of understanding increases so, decide which group your book is for before you begin writing.

#2 Use strong titles:

 The goal is to gain the parent’s attention enough to make them buy your book for their kids because if the parents trust what you have written then it will be easier for it to get to the kids aside from instances where the children see your book and tell the parents to get it for them.

Strong titles are encouraged because they will interest both the children and the parents.

#3 Understand the structure of children’s stories:

Children’s stories are not like adult or teenage stories. The rules of engagement differ.

Here you have to consider things like;

  1. Word count
  2. Where to include pictures and what kind of pictures to be used
  3. Know the number of pages required to make a children’s storybook

#4 Your first sentence is the selling point:

The power of the first sentence cannot be overemphasized as it is what will determine if the reader would be interested in reading what you have written in the first place. It is like what they say about first impressions, it also works on children’s stories as most children as drawn by what they see first. So, make sure your first sentence is captivating enough to keep your young readers glued.

#5 Amplify the powers of your main character

Children relate and flow more with a story when the child in the story is the main character and he or she is doing almost all the heroic activities. An example would be the “power rangers”, the way the children in the story came forth and saved the day on multiple occasions, makes children want to be important so they can make a change in their time as well.

Conclusion

Children’s stories can be the most fun book you would write but, you must be sure to adhere to every rules that will make it impactful and fun to read at the same time for the children.
